Creedence Clearwater Revival foi uma banda de Blues/Southern Rock americanaformada por John Fogerty (guitarra e vocais principais), Tom Fogerty (guitarra), Stu Cook (baixo) e Doug Clifford (bateria), que, sob outras denominações, tocavam juntos desde 1959.
Adotaram o nome Creedence Clearwater Revival em 1967, com o qual lançaram as primeiras gravações em 1968.
O nome C.C.R. surgiu pela junção do nome de um amigo do Tom Fogerty chamado "Creedence Nubal" e por um comercial de cerveja "Clearwater".
Já no ínicio, em 1968, obtiveram disco de ouro com o álbum Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Em janeiro de 1969 foi lançado o segundo álbum, Bayou Country, ganhando disco de platina.
O terceiro disco da banda sai no mesmo ano, Green River, também ganhando o disco de platina.
No final do ano de 1969 foi lançado o quarto disco, Willy And The Poorboys, que pra variar também recebe o disco de platina.
Em 1970 foi lançado o disco de maior sucesso da banda, Cosmo's Factory, que vendeu mais de 3 milhões de cópias. Ainda nesse ano foi também lançado o disco Pendulum, que também foi disco de platina, o quinto do grupo. O ambiente no grupo, porém, já não é dos melhores, Tom, Doug e Stu não concordam em serem apenas uma banda para John Fogerty.
Em 1972 foi lançado o último disco da banda, Mardi Gras, que ganhou o disco de ouro. A obra mostra que o grupo está próximo da divisão, com Stu Cook e Doug Clifford compondo algumas das canções (até então John Fogerty era quem compunha todas as canções da banda).
Em 16 de outubro a gravadora Fantasy Records anuncia oficialmente o fim de Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Todos os membros da banda participaram das gravações do álbum solo de Tom Fogerty lançado em 1974, Zephyr National.
Tom Fogerty morreu em 1990 vítima de AIDS adquirida por meio de uma transfusão de sangue durante uma cirurgia nas costas.
Desde então reuniram-se eventualmente em 1995 para aparições em festivais diversos. Stu Cook e Doug Clifford chegaram a montar uma banda chamada Creedence Clearwater Revisited e se apresentaram tocando canções de seu grupo antigo.
Em 2006 fizeram uma turnê pelo Brasil com a formação Revisited onde tocaram por uma semana, passando pelas cidades: Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Bauru, São Paulo, Jaguariúna e Tubarão. Passaram também por Porto Alegre alguns anos antes.
