Napalm Death

O Napalm Death surgiu em 1981 na cidade de Birmingham, Inglaterra. A banda inicialmente se inspirava no movimento Punk, principalmente das bandas de Anarcopunk como Crass e Rudimentary Peni. Com o passar dos anos passaram a incrementar novos elementos ao seu som, como Thrash Metal e Hardcore.
Em 1987 lançaram seu debut: Scum, álbum que ajudou a definir os padrões de uma nova vertente do Metal, o Grindcore, que misturava os elementos acima citados com muita velocidade, violência, peso, sujeira, vocais urrados e letras com temáticas sócio-políticas.
O álbum tem uma produção lamentável, que traz uma mistura de barulhos, mas tem alguns malucos que acham isso lindo! Desde seu início, o Napalm Death teve uma formação muito instável, tanto que em Scum, duas formações diferentes gravaram o álbum, com o lado A ficando a cargo de Nicholas Bullen (vocal, baixo), Justin Broadrick (guitarra, vocal) e Mick Harris (bateria), enquanto no lado B estavam Lee Dorrian (vocal), Bill Steer (guitarra), Jim Whitely (baixo), além do já citado Mick Harris (bateria).
Em 1988, a banda se estabeleceria com aquela que seria considerada sua formação clássica, com Lee Dorrian, Shane Embury (baixo), Bill Owen (guitarra) e Mick Harris. Esse status começou a ser criado em From Enslavement To Obliteration (1988), que trouxe uma enorme evolução em relação ao primeiro disco, com uma produção mais eficiente, além de um melhor trabalho de execução e composição. Em From Enslavement To Obliteration, encontram-se clássicos como Lucid Fairytale, Unchallenge Hate, Social Sterility, Mentally Murderer e a faixa-título.
Em 1990, vem Harmony Corruption e novamente o line-up é alterado, com as entradas de Mark "Barney" Greenway (vocal) e Jesse Pintado (guitarra). Completam o time os já conhecido Shane Embury e Mick Harris.
Mais uma vez, a banda deu um salto de qualidade, com uma predominância do Thrash, aliado a influências de Death Metal. Vale lembrar que o disco foi produzido por Scott Burns (que produziu Beneath The Remains do Sepultura, entre outros), que auxiliou para o peso que se faz presente. Na faixa Unfit Earth temos as participações especiais de Glen Benton (Deicide) e John Tardy (Obituary) nos backing vocals. Falando em Obituary, a banda é uma clara referência nas faixas Malicious Intent e Circle Of Hipocrisy.
Dando continuidade na sequência mais matadora de sua carreira, o Napalm soltou Utopia Banished, em 1992, outro petardo, com destaque para as faixas The World Keeps Turning, Dementia Acess e Christening Of The Blind. Nesse disco, é possível notar elementos de Metal Industrial nas faixas Discordance e Contemptuous. O álbum marca a estréia do baterista Danny Herrera.
Fear, Emptiness, Despair, de 1994, fecha a sequência mais brutal da carreira da banda. Nesse álbum, é possível se ver maiores influências de Metal Industrial, sendo uma transição natural do que havia ocorrido em Utopia Banished.
Em Diatribes, de 1996, a banda começou a perder um pouco de fôlego, mas nada comparável ao que se veria nos discos seguintes, com Inside The Torn Apart (1997) e Words From The Exit Wound (1998), os dois mais fracos da carreira da banda. Além das composições estranhas, o excesso de experimentações sem um foco aparente, contribuíram para o fracasso dos trabalhos.
A volta por cima viria em 2000, com Enemy Of The Music Business, que restaurou o som que consagrou o Napalm Death. O destaque do disco fica para o baterista Danny Herrera, que fez seu melhor trabalho na banda, e para o guitarrista Jesse Pintado que faria sua última participação efetiva em um álbum do Napalm. O guitarrista deixaria a banda por seus problemas com o álcool e viria a falecer em 2006.
O álbum seguinte foi Order Of The Leech, que saiu em 2002, mostrando a banda ainda mais veloz e agressiva. Embora Jesse ainda apareça nos créditos, que toca guitarra no disco é Mitch Harris.
Na sequência vem o excelente Leaders Not Followers: Part 2, de 2004, que traz excelentes covers.
Em 2005, a banda lança The Code Is Red...Long Live The Code, que conta com as participações especiais de Jeffrey Walker (ex-Carcass), Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed) e Jello Biafra (ex-Dead Kennedys).
The Code Is Red...Long Live The Code tem um som semelhante ao de seu sucessor, Smear Campaign, de 2006, ambos mais puxados para o Hardcore. Em Smear Campaign há a participação especial de Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering, Agua de Annique) na faixa In Deference.
Desde que reencontrou o seu caminho em Enemy Of The Music Business, o Carcass não apresentou grandes mudanças em seu som, o que não é nenhum defeito, e pode ser conferido em Time Waits For No Slave, de 2009. O destaque do álbum vai para Barney que mostrou toda a sua versatilidade, explorando diversas variações vocais.
Seu mais recente trabalho é Utilitarian, que saiu em 2012. Nesse álbum, a banda saiu da zona de conforto, sendo um dos mais ousados de sua carreira. Há diversas faixas com ritmo mais cadenciado e até a estranha inclusão de saxofone na faixa Everyday Pox. Ainda assim é possível verificar a porradaria característica do Napalm em Think Tank Trails e Nom De Guerre.
